It's the dawn of a new day for President Trump: The president is about to enter a brand new political reality, one that could prove rougher than what he's experienced over the past two years. On Thursday, Democrats take control of the House on the official opening day of the 116th Congress. Thursday is day 13 of the partial government shutdown. One of the first items on presumptive Speaker Nancy Pelosi's agenda is figuring out how to fund the government and end the partial shutdown. A White House meeting between President Donald Trump and top congressional leaders produced no tangible progress Wednesday. White House and Hill sources described the session as "frank" and "civil" — as well as "circular" and "contentious at times." The Situation Room meeting ended after the President suggested they all meet again Friday after leadership elections. |
