Sensor foil makes materials smarter and safer Imec’s thin foils containing optical sensors can be incorporated into
composite materials. The foil measures their strain and can be used to
measure the ‘health’ of a composite.
So bicycles, aircrafts, wind turbines, pressure vessels etc. will be able themselves to
report when there is a problem or if a part needs replacing. |
