QUESTIONS ANSWERED | Several dead in attack at Turkish aviation company |

| | Smoke rises as rescuers arrive at the scene. Credit: Getty Images | At least five people have been killed and more than 20 injured in an attack at the headquarters of an aviation company near the Turkish capital Ankara, authorities have confirmed. CCTV footage from the site at Turkish Aerospace Industries showed a man firing a gun inside the building. The interior minister, Ali Yerlikaya, has called it "a terrorist attack". |

|
| What happened? | Local media reported that the attack began as workers were changing shifts. Initial images shared on Turkish television channel NTV showed a large cloud of smoke in front of the entrance of Turkish Aerospace Industries, which is located some 40km (25 miles) outside the capital. It is unclear how many people were involved in the attack and if there are other suspects to be apprehended. | What have authorities said? | Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that two attackers, a woman and a man, have been "neutralised", adding that the attack had most likely involved the PKK, a Kurdish separatist group. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan decried the assault, calling it a "vile attack targeting the survival of our country". Yılmaz Tunç, Turkey's justice minister, said a judicial investigation into the attack has been launched by prosecutors in Ankara. | What is Turkish Aerospace Industries? | The company is a key player in Turkey’s aerospace industry, designing, developing and manufacturing various aircraft for commercial and military use. It is the company designated as the licensed manufacturer for the US-designed F-16 fighter jets. It also plays a role in modernising older aircraft for use by the Turkish military. The firm's two principal owners are the Turkish Armed Forces and a civilian arm of Turkey's government. | | | |

| Lukashenko tells BBC North Korean troops will not fight in Ukraine | | Alexander Lukashenko is a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Credit: BBC | The leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has denied Western allegations that North Korean troops have been sent to fight with Russia in Ukraine. South Korea's spy agency claims that 1,500 soldiers have already arrived in Russia for training. But Lukashenko - who is a close ally of President Vladimir Putin - called the claims "rubbish" in an interview with the BBC at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. |

|
| | If there’s any leader who knows Vladimir Putin inside out, it is Lukashenko. The two men have known each other for years and meet regularly. I asked him to comment on claims that North Korea had sent troops to fight alongside Russia in Ukraine. “Knowing his character, Putin would never try to persuade another country to involve its army in Russia’s special operation in Ukraine,” he said.
“And if the reports are confirmed?” I asked. “It would be a step towards the escalation of the conflict if the armed forces of any country, even Belarus, were on the contact line,” replied Alexander Lukashenko. |
|
| | - The latest: South Korea summoned the Russian ambassador on Monday, seeking the "immediate withdrawal" of North Korean troops which it says are being trained to fight in Ukraine.
| - On the ground: Both Ukraine and South Korea have accused Pyongyang of sending troops to aid Russia. But what effect would those soldiers have on the conflict? James Waterhouse and Olga Ivshina look for the answer.
