The Art of Minimalism, When Artists Commit

Relating to the environment, art can be used as a tool to visually communicate the major challenges we face today; including pollution disasters, habits of consumption, and the impacts our choices have on ocean health. We talked with artist Alain Bourdon about his project, ‘The Minimalist Wave’, for European Week of Waste Reduction.

Domestic Pollution: What is it and how can we help?

Many cleaning products, cosmetics, soaps, and shampoos directly impact human and ocean well being. These domestic substances contain micropollutants that have toxic effects on aquatic environments. Surfrider Ocean Campus releases new toolkit on Marine Litter

Plastic is the most common waste polluting our oceans. Every year, 8 million tonnes of plastic debris flow from inland origins directly into the ocean. In this Ocean Campus Educational Kit, learn everything you need to know to become an expert on marine litter.

NORTH GERMANY CHAPTER

In October, the North Germany chapter organized an Ocean Initiative with StrandBude20 in Boltenhagener Bay. Thanks to their efforts, the volunteers collected 25 kilos of waste. 90% plastic waste and more than 2,000 cigarette butts. Demonstrating how real change can happen when we all work together! Thank you to all who volunteered!

FINISTERE CHAPTER

The Finistère chapter participated in the 2018 Wave Games , where they met Antoine Albeau, 25x world champion windsurfer. During the event volunteers educated citizens on the dangers of plastic pollution, raised awareness on single-use items, promoted reusable alternatives and distributed pocket ashtrays. Great work, and thank you to all the volunteers!
