Explore secret parts of the Underground this festive seasonDecember in London can feel very Christmas-centric, but here’s something totally different to get up to this month. Hidden London tours give you the chance to go behind the scenes of the London Underground — think disused stations, time capsule corridors and forgotten Tube platforms. They’re running throughout December, with extra dates between Christmas and New Year — ideal if you’re gift shopping for a transport enthusiast, or looking for a fun activity while school’s out (for the first time, kids aged 10 and over are welcome on tours). Where exactly could you be exploring? Hidden London tours taking place this month include Aldwych ‘ghost station’, an Access All Areas tour of Charing Cross (where you’ll step onto platforms and concourses used in Skyfall and Paddington) and a visit to the disused bits of Baker Street, retracing the story behind the world’s very first underground railway. Click below to see the full programme of tours and get your tickets. It’s panto season (oh yes it is)Cheer the heroes, boo the villains, and sing along to catchy songs as Dame Choom Bouquet, the wicked sea witch Hydra and other characters take to the stage at The Little Mermaid Panto, opening in Wandsworth this weekend. With tickets from £12, it's excellent value, and relaxed performances with adapted lighting and special effects are available.
