SHOP Coverage Across Multiple States and Businesses

If your business operates in multiple states, or you have multiple businesses in a state, you may wonder if you can enroll in the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP). The answer is yes! If youd like to offer SHOP coverage to your employees, you have two options:

  1. Choose a single health plan for all employees. Be sure to choose a plan with a multi-state or national provider network. Offer it to all full-time employees in each business location.
  2. Offer different SHOP plans in each state where your employees work. As long as your business meets all requirements to participate in the state's SHOP, you can offer coverage even if you have just one employee in a location. You'll still need to offer coverage to all of your full-time employees in each state, and you'll have to verify your eligibility for each state where you offer SHOP coverage separately.

To find a SHOP-registered agent or broker to assist you with SHOP coverage, click the button below to use the Find Local Help tool. Enter your ZIP code and hit Search. After reaching the results page, navigate to Coverage type and select Small business from the drop-down menu. To find agents and brokers licensed in multiple states, select "Add More Filters" and ensure "Licensed in multiple states" is checked.
