As Autumn begins to settle in, kids head back to school and the TV schedules fill up with comedy once more, it's time for another selection of the best books and DVDs money can buy. If you've got a hankering for something classic or something new, whether TV, film or radio, we hope you'll find something below to tickle your fancy.
New Products
Agatha Raisin And The Quiche Of Death (DVD)
A full series of this comedy drama is on the way, but for those that missed it, here's the 2014 special. Ashley Jensen stars in the titular role of this made-for-TV adaptation of the popular M.C. Beaton novel about a PR goddess who relocates to the peaceful village of Carsley in the Cotswolds. Details
SunTrap (DVD)
The recent sitcom, now on DVD. Kayvan Novak plays Woody - a master of disguise and the world's number one undercover reporter. But when his corrupt editor blows his cover, Woody flees to a sunny Spanish island to find his former mentor Brutus (Bradley Walsh), an expatriate now running a bar. Details
No Offence (DVD)
Joanna Scanlan, Elaine Cassidy and Alexandra Roach lead the unorthodox crack team of cops at the heart of Paul Abbott's No Offence, the comedy drama which was recently on Channel 4. Details
The Maggie - Digitally Restored (DVD & Blu-ray)
This Ealing Studios comedy set in the Scottish isles has been digitally restored. Hollywood's Paul Douglas plays Marshall, an American businessman who becomes involved with The Maggie, a rundown old shipping vessel captained by the taciturn skipper (Alex Mackenzie). DVD Details & Blu-ray.
Ronnie Barker - All I Ever Wrote: The Complete Works (Book)
This book from 1999 has been just been re-published. All I Ever Wrote is a collection of sketches, monologues, songs, poems and scripts from every strand of Ronnie Barker's long and brilliant career. Details
Melody Club (DVD)
Terry-Thomas stars in one of his earliest roles as a nitwit detective on the trail of a gang of jewel thieves. In this 1949 film, he traces them to a nightclub and ultimately, more by luck than judgement, rounds them up. This release also includes two bonus shorts:
Hole Lot Of Trouble (1969) and Gold Is Where You Find It (1968). Details

It's a scary thing to think about now perhaps, but Christmas is closing in on us. We'll soon be entering the period where books aimed at the seasonal gift market are released. This one very much fits into that category: It's a third collection of dim-witted delights and interesting interjections from the QI team. Details
Mr Bean - Number 7 (DVD)
Join family favourite Mr Bean in nine episodes of animated adventures, broadcast earlier this year by CITV. The character is voiced by the one and only Rowan Atkinson. Details
Doc Martin - Series One To Six (DVD)
The new 7th series of this hit comedy drama arrives on TV next week. If you need to catch-up on the story so far, or want to re-live all the previous episodes, here's a boxset featuring all the episodes to date. Details
School For Scoundrels (Blu-ray & DVD)
An all-star film from 1960. Henry Palfrey (Ian Carmichael) is one of life's losers. When his prospective girlfriend April (Janette Scott) is whisked from under his nose by charming bounder Raymond Delauney (Terry-Thomas), he enrols at the College of Lifemanship run by Stephen Potter (Alastair Sim). The Happiest Days Of Your Life (Blu-ray & DVD)
A precursor to the hugely successful St. Trinian's series from director Frank Launder, The Happiest Days Of Your Life is set in Nutbourne College, the most respectable of boys' schools. A Whitehall mistake billets a girls' school to share their premises, to the outrage of the horrified headmaster and headmistress, played with comic mastery by Alastair Sim and Margaret Rutherford. Del Boy: He Who Dares... - My Genuine Autobiography (Book)
One of Britain's favourite comedy characters is getting his own biography. Growing up in Peckham and known to all as a wheeler-dealer and international playboy, Del matured into an award-winning thriving entrepreneur and glittering member of the jet-set... so says the jacket cover anyway. Details
Boy Meets Girl (DVD)
This new sitcom about a transgender woman in a relationship with a younger man launches on BBC Two tonight (Thursday 3rd September). If you enjoy it and want to add it to your collection you won't have to wait long for the DVD... it'll be out next month. Details
Pompidou (DVD)
A comedy for all the family to enjoy. Matt Lucas is Pompidou in this visual comedy series, a penniless aristocrat living in a broken-down caravan on his now-crumbling estate. He is kept company by his long-serving and loyal butler Hove (Alex Macqueen) and his devoted Afghan Hound, Marion. Details
The Marty Feldman Comedy Machine - The Complete Series (DVD)
One of the premiere comic performers from the second half of the 20th century, Marty Feldman struck a high watermark with his ATV series from the early 1970s: The Marty Feldman Comedy Machine.
The brainchild of M*A*S*H producer Larry Gelbart and co-starring anarchic comedy genius Spike Milligan, these fourteen episodes of mirth and mayhem won the Golden Rose at the 1972 Montreux Festival and features typically Pythonesque graphics by Terry Gilliam. Details
Siblings - Series 1 (DVD)
All six episodes from the first series of the sitcom starring Tom Stourton and Charlotte Ritchie as brother and sister Dan and Hannah.
The dysfunctional relationship shared by Dan and Hannah sees them getting themselves - and others - into awkward situations, including Dan pretending to be in a wheelchair to impress Hannah's boss. Series 2 is coming soon to TV. Details
Dad's Army - The Lost Tapes (Audio)
Dad's Army is everywhere again, with repeats on BBC2, a new film on the way, and a BBC drama about the making-of the show in the works now too. Warning To Wantons (DVD)
Featuring an early role for accomplished French actress Anne Vernon alongside Mary Poppins star David Tomlinson, this effervescent comedy charts the romantic adventures of a young woman who swaps her strict convent school for the heady pleasures of high society. Details
Dapper Laughs Live - The Res-Erection (DVD)
Dapper Laughs is back... and he's now even got his own DVD! The controversial lad character performed by Daniel O'Reilly will be the central focus on this DVD recorded at one of the Dapper Laughs live dates. Details
Mrs. Brown's Boys - Christmas Cracker'd Big Box (DVD & Blu-ray)
Another two new festive specials of this hugely popular sitcom are due to be recorded at the end of this month. If you want to get even more festive with Mrs Brown, you'll be able to pick up this boxset containing the 2012, 2013 and 2014 specials in November. DVD Details & Blu-ray Details
Beyond Our Ken - Series 1 (Audio)
Kenneth Horne, Kenneth Williams, Hugh Paddick, Betty Marsden and Ron Moody star in the surviving 13 episodes from the very first series of the classic weekly show; the forerunner to Round The Horne, which lit up the airwaves between 1958 and 1964. A madcap mix of sketches and music, the episodes are written by Eric Merriman and Barry Took. Details
