Stay up to date with The Paralympic Breakfast | Our new newsletter covering the Paris 2024 Paralympics | Hi valued subscriber, I first spoke to Nikki Ayers as she was laying in her hospital bed after a tackle in rugby union went horribly wrong. Now she is about to chase Paralympic gold over the next two weeks and we'll bring you all the highs and lows for Ayers and her Australian teammates. Every Paralympian has a story to share, and none of them are the same. For Ayers - it was the 10 operations in 21 days to save her leg, and then another six before she found rowing and a Paralympic dream. |

The word "inspirational" is overused in sport, but it hardly feels adequate when describing Ayers and her teammates in Paris. Did I mention Ayers also did the Kokoda Track after her accident? "As shit as [the accident] was and yes it was life changing, it's just created opportunities that I would have never had before," she said. Sign up to our daily newsletter and follow the coverage with us as the Australian team hopes to build on its 21 gold medals from Tokyo. - Chris Dutton |
