Itβs Friday and the last day of March. Itβs hard to believe three months ago we were partying like it was 2022. To keep our newsletters free and still be able to pay the bills, youβll see a sponsor mention. I vet them all myself. I also make sure you always get the best price. TODAY'S TOP STORYTrust me, just hit deleteImagine if Facebook and Google were scammed out of $121 million by a sophisticated Business Email Compromise attack. It happened. The mastermind behind the BEC scheme, Evaldas Rimasauskas, was sentenced to five years in prison. Howβd he do it? By setting up a fake company, creating convincing invoices, and preparing fake lawyers' letters and contracts. If it can happen to tech giants, it can happen to you. Here are some red flags to be on the lookout for: Your delivery was unsuccessful: No, it wasnβt. If you missed it, youβll most likely get a text or note on the door, not an unsolicited email. Bonus points if you know the tracking number.Action required: Your Payment Was Declined: Anyone demanding you act through an email deserves to be ignored. This one is often an attempt to get you to pay for nothing.Re: Anything: OK, there are times when an email with βRe:β at the start is part of a legitimate email chain, but itβs a common scam tactic to make you feel like itβs part of an existing chain.Payroll has been delayed: Does your boss email you with this exact phrase to tell you thereβs a problem getting paid? If not, itβs a scam. Move along.Dropbox: Document shared with you: This one can be hard to spot, especially if youβre a Dropbox user. But follow good advice not to click email links, and you should stay safe. When in doubt: Stop and think, donβt click that link. (Yeah, I trademarked that phrase.) PSA: Help me spread the word about phishing scams. If you run a business, non-profit, or whatever, get free flyers and social media awareness images here. Together, we can knock these scammers down a few notches. |
DEAL OF THE DAY

WEB WATERCOOLERClippyβs not happy: Microsoft isnβt stopping with AI in Bing search. The new Microsoft 365 Copilot is an AI tool that can write a first draft of a report, create a presentation for you, write emails or even summarize long threads. Letβs hope itβs better than Sydney. Calling all classical music lovers: Apple Music Classical is here with ~5 million tracks. For audio nerds: You can listen to 192KHz/24-bit high-resolution lossless audio, plus thousands of recordings in spatial audio. AirTags, for more than luggage: The DEA reportedly used Appleβs little location tracker to intercept a package from Shanghai thought to be en route to an illegal drug maker. GPS units are nothing new in police investigations, but AirTags are new territory for the federal government. Can you hear me now? The latest iPhone update, iOS 16.4, includes a feature to make your calls sound clearer. To turn on Voice Isolation: Answer a call, then swipe from the top right corner of your screen to open the Control Center. Tap Mic Mode > Voice Isolation. Show me the money: Elon Musk says after April 15, only users who pay for Twitter Blue can vote in polls. Tweets from free accounts wonβt get boosted by the algorithm, either. He says these are anti-bot measures, but we all know Twitter needs cash. Antivirus isnβt optional: I hear from people day after day who clicked the wrong link or trusted the wrong person and now their devices are infected. You need antivirus software. My pick is TotalAV. Just $19 for a year. Use my link to get $85 off and protect five devices.* To infinity and beyond: Lockheed Martinβs new lunar division is hard at work on its first project: a moon-to-Earth satellite network. It would allow non-stop connection between astronauts, their equipment and everyone back home. Those of you here on Earth with bad internet must be shaking your heads. |

TRENDINGThe search is overWho wants to waste time on a show only to discover it stinks halfway through the first season? Spoiler alert: No one! These are the most-watched shows on Netflix right now. No idea what they are? Let me translate. "The Night Agent": Thereβs a mole in the White House and only one man can catch it. Spoiler: The mole is a Russian spy. "Love Is Blind": Contestants are separated into pods and get engaged to each other before meeting face-to-face. Sure, why not. "Shadow and Bone": A young woman with extraordinary powers is the only hope to unite a world torn apart by war and dark forces. They should have named her Kim. "Waco: American Apocalypse": This documentary series tells the story of the disastrous Waco siege in 1993 β a truly dark time in history. "You": Creepy stalker/serial killer ... who people seem to be in love with. Weird, but OK. "Outer Banks": Teenagers search for buried treasure. The creators left cellphones out. How will these kids survive?! I loved this series and so did my son, Ian. More of a movie buff? These are the top 10 flicks on Netflix β |

Tech you can trust at a great priceItβs frustrating working on an old PC thatβs barely chugging along. Good news: You can save up to $500 during Dellβs Semi-Annual Sale. Better hurry! Sale ends soon. We use Dell gear at Komando HQ. Dell laptops, PCs and servers power my national radio show, podcasts and everything else we do. Our pick is the Optiplex model. Bonus: If youβre a small business owner, Dell has a service not many people realize is totally free. You can chat with a small biz expert to figure out what tech is right for your needs. No obligation to buy, either. Call an advisor at 877-ASK-DELL or go to Dell.com for free expert support. β |
BY THE NUMBERSLemon 8 The TikTok alternative made by β¦ TikTok parent company ByteDance. Yep, the one who reports back to Communist China. Lemon 8 cracked the U.S. App Storeβs Top 10 most downloaded list as our government tries to ban TikTok. China just never stops. ~1,000,000 The number of times police ran facial recognition searches through Clearview AI. The company has 30 billion images scraped from social media in its database. Consent and privacy are things of the past. Smile for the camera! 6.2 The number of miles the hybrid Lamborghini Rivuelto can run on electric power alone. With 1,000 horsepower on tap and a top speed of 220 mph, nobodyβs buying this car for its efficiency. But 6 miles wonβt even get you to the grocery store. |
