Our Annual Appeal

"Meditation is one of the most extraordinary things, and if you do not know what it is you are like a blind person in a world of bright color, shadows, and moving light.

It is not an intellectual affair, when the heart enters into the mind, the mind has quite a different quality: it is then really limitless, not only in its capacity to think, to act efficiently, but also in its sense of living in a vast space where you are part of everything.

Meditation is the movement of love...

This meditation cannot be learned from another. You must begin without knowing anything about it, and move from innocence to innocence.

The soil in which the meditative mind can begin is the soil of everyday life, the strife, the pain, and the fleeting joy. It must begin there, and bring order, and from there move endlessly... You must take a plunge into the water, not knowing how to swim. And the beauty of meditation is that you never know where you are, where you are going, what the end is."

J. Krishnamurti
Excerpt from Meditations, 1969

Dear Friends,

As we embark on this year's Annual Appeal, we are reminded of Krishnamurti's insight into the fundamental need for self-awareness and inquiry in a world full of complexity. Supporting this appeal ensures that these profound teachings remain accessible to those seeking clarity and transformation. Your contribution nurtures the ongoing work of sharing Krishnamurti's vision—encouraging individuals to explore the depth of their minds and hearts, fostering a world grounded in understanding, not division.

Krishnamurti reminds us that meditation is not something to be taught by another but a process that begins within our everyday lives. It is not a method or technique but an ongoing movement that brings order to the mind. This process could open a space of clarity where we can potentially make contact with "what is."

This season, we are offering two online programs. The first, On Death (Oct 28 – Nov 1), will explore Krishnamurti’s teachings on the nature of death and our psychological fears surrounding it. The program will examine how we confront the unknown and what it means to “die” to the known each day, creating space for new understanding. This online program is a chance for participants to reflect on a central theme in Krishnamurti’s work.

Another program, Is Individuality an Illusion? (Nov 18 – 22), will explore the concept of self and whether our sense of individuality limits our understanding. Krishnamurti often questioned the idea that we are separate from the world, suggesting that this illusion of separateness leads to confusion and conflict. Participants will engage in dialogue and inquiry, reflecting on how the self shapes our view of the world and how we might live without this perception of separation.

We are announcing the release of How to Find Peace, a new collection of Krishnamurti’s teachings. In this book, Krishnamurti addresses how to live peacefully in a world marked by conflict. He emphasizes that peace begins with personal responsibility and an inner shift, rather than external solutions or ideologies. This collection offers insight into how we can approach the challenges of the world with a deeper understanding of our role in creating peace.

For those seeking a space for reflection and study, the Krishnamurti Retreat in Ojai offers a Midweek Personal Study Retreat. This self-guided experience includes a discounted 4-night stay from Monday to Friday, giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in Krishnamurti’s teachings. The Retreat provides access to Pine Cottage, including its library and quiet room, and offers a peaceful environment for self-study and reflection.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our new and ongoing supporters. Your generosity makes it possible for us to preserve and share Krishnamurti’s teachings. As we launch this year’s Annual Appeal, we invite you to consider making a donation to support our programs, publications, and retreats. Your contributions are vital to continuing this important work, and we deeply appreciate your support. Click here to learn more.

On Death
Online Program
Oct 28-Nov 1

Why do we fear death? Is it because we are so seldom in the unknown that the great unknown is terrifying? Do our attempts to create psychological security increase our fears? We have countless ways of distracting from death, what happens when we truly look at it?

Krishnamurti says we must die every day, every moment. Is such a thing possible? Memory creates continuity, and our reactions arise instantaneously and reverberate in the body. Is it possible to end things completely? How would that come about? Is there a genuine dying to each moment that is not suppression or escape?

Is Individuality an Illusion?
Online Program
November 18-22

We have a a solid sense of our own individuality. I am in here, you are over there: I must manage my life and my relationship with you, as well as I can. But is this sense of an individual existence, an illusion? Is the whole human existence generated by the sense of being a separate individual?
