The parents of Matthew Phillips, a federal inmate in western Illinois, were told by authorities that two white supremacist inmates allegedly attacked him because he was Jewish. Phillips’ parents filed a federal lawsuit accusing the U.S. government of wrongful death and negligence. His death was the first of seven reported at U.S. Penitentiary Thomson over the last two years.
