Good morning, and welcome to the Tuesday, December 12 edition of the Saints Insider newsletter. The Saints are off the schneid, but even after a 22-point win against the lowly Panthers, are you feeling good about where they're at? I know one person who isn't. A disconcerting reality The three-game losing streak is snapped, Club Dub returned in the Saints postgame locker room, and with four games remaining, the Saints are back at the top of the NFC South standings. But the victory can't mask everything for our columnist, Jeff Duncan. It says something that the lasting image from the game was normally mild-mannered center Erik McCoy had to be pulled away from his confrontation with quarterback Derek Carr near the Saints sideline. As columnist Jeff Duncan said, "There’s a disconnect. Between the players and coaches. Between the quarterback and some teammates. And subsequently, between the fans and the team. "Even in victory, you can tell something is off. There’s a lack of camaraderie and cohesiveness that is apparent to anyone watching on game days." The Saints have some work to do, both in terms of what's left in this season and repairing their image with the fanbase. "Time to move forward"Speaking of that spat between McCoy and Carr, coach Dennis Allen addressed it with the team and he addressed it with the public. Here's what the coach had to say about the heated moment the day after the game. News and notesCarr was asked after the game about a report that he was dealing with a fractured rib in addition to the concussion and nagging shoulder injury. He confirmed that, yes, he was, and this was actually the third rib he's fractured this season. Allen commented on his QB's health Monday. Speaking of injuries, rookie defensive tackle Bryan Bresee injured his shoulder on the Saints' final defensive play against the Panthers. It looks like he dodged anything serious, though. You might've caught on the broadcast how Allen tried to challenge a third down play a bit too late in Sunday's win. The coach offered a pretty funny explanation for what happened. That's all we've got for now. Thanks, as always, for your readership and support. Stay tuned as we hit the stretch run in the 2023 season. Cheers, Luke Johnson |
