BoldBrush Recommends: Sonia SlavtchevaGet Notified When Sonia Posts New Art BiographyArtist Statement When I paint, I can drift into a meditative state; my singular focus becomes the painting itself. No multitasking, no rush, no stress. Mindfulness in its purest form. My process is intuitive and spontaneous apart from carefully choosing the color palette. Sometimes my work takes on a life of its own, and alters my original intentions. At first, this would frustrate me, but I've grown to enjoy the transformation and creative flow. My paintings draw influence from abstract and minimalist styles. I create images based on memories, night dreams and emotions. I bring clarity and simplicity in my artworks by eliminating superfluous details. All along, my intention is to pass on positive energy and lightness of being. Watercolor and ink are my preferred mediums. They ask me to let go, be patient and to stay focused - although occasionally, the control freak in me speaks out and I have an urge to draw ink border lines. I keep taking pictures of textures, shadows and color combinations, that inspire me, and save them on my phone in an album "for inspiration". It's beautiful to watch the clouds during sunset and twilight while wondering what kind of colors should I use to paint them. Mother Nature is the ultimate inspiration. Bio Sonia Slavtcheva is a Prague-based artist focused on abstract works on paper. Originally from Bulgaria, she moved to the Czech Republic in 1990. Sonia Slavtcheva graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, USA with Master's degree in Business Administration. She spent half of her life working for blue chip corporations as Chief Financial Officer and board member. Her leap into the world of making art started in early 2019, when she got a farewell gift from her colleagues - classes to learn painting. They clearly knew her well: after a 30-year career reaching the peaks of corporate finance, she wanted to escape rigid, controlled environments and freely express herself. Still, she hadn't let go completely. Sonia Slavtcheva was soon invited to work at a tech start-up. While it was free of "corporate" culture, the hyper-energetic pace and stress burned her out after two years. Art was her refuge and rescue. It helped her tremendously to get back on her feet. So she decided to give it a more prominent place in her life. She became fully dedicated to creating fine art since June 2022. Sonia Slavtcheva has a lot of lived experience to reflect upon. She has travelled and continue to explore the world. Along the way, she enjoys visiting art galleries and museums to find inspiration. It allowed her to cultivate a strong sense for fine art and become an aesthete and collector. Learn More About Sonia Slavtcheva FASO Loves Clive Bryant’s oil paintings!
