Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! Protecting Heirs Property Owners Over a third of Black-owned land in the South was passed down informally, rather than through deeds or wills. Unfortunately, too many of these "heirs property" owners have historically been locked out of loans and disaster assistance programs. That’s why Senator Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) and I successfully pushed FEMA last fall to alter its policies and end this relief discrimination. This week, we learned that since FEMA’s policy change, $350 million in disaster relief has been distributed to tens of thousands of heirs property owners who would have otherwise been denied. Standing with Conservative Minorities In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs Decision, the Left has ramped up attacks against Justice Clarence Thomas, a Black conservative. Sadly, these attempts at silencing minority conservatives are nothing new. This week, I joined Jesse Watters on Fox News to stand up for Justice Thomas and all minority conservatives who choose to follow their convictions in the face of hostility. That’s why it’s so important for us to remember that America is still a land of opportunity and blessings. This summer, I am asking you to spill some “sweet tea” with me and other South Carolinians. This will be a great way to lift each other up with good news from throughout our communities. Let’s refuse to let the good go unnoticed; share your story using the hashtag #SCSweetTea! Sincerely, |
