On December 28, the orchestra performs Prokofiev’s “Classical” Symphony, Felix Mendelssohn’s “Scottish” Symphony, and Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto with pianist Jonathan Biss. In this special 90-minute, 7 PM performance, Rubén Rengel (winner of the Robert Frederick Smith Prize at the 2018 Sphinx Competition) joins the orchestra for J. S. Bach’s virtuosic Violin Concerto in A Minor. The program also features Elgar’s poetic Introduction and Allegro, a charming early Mozart work, and Tchaikovsky’s melodic Serenade for Strings.
