Hi John, With the weather turning warmer, an urge to spring clean hit me. How about you? Are you feeling it, too? It's not across the board, but I did do a little overhaul in my studio this week that included taking a few things off to the thrift shop, clearing table tops, and wiping down surfaces. The refresh has been invigorating and inspired me to start a new painting and work on a series of collage experiments. If you're finding yourself or your child/students stuck in a creative rut, you might want to try hitting a space refresh button, too. Here are a few tips to get you started: Start small. Just one little area can make a big difference. Step back from the space you want to work on and take it all in. What's one are you could work on first that would have a big impact for you? If there's clutter on a table surface, clean it off. Having an empty table opens you up for creative possibilities. Look for multiples. Sometimes we collect too much of a good thing. For me, it's been Sharpies, pencils, and books. If you have a collection, consider paring it back to fewer essentials. If you only use one favorite set of watercolor paint, do you really need five different sets? Donate the extras to a charity or friends.
