Painting is a medium in which the mind can actualize itself; it is a medium of thought...  ~ Robert Motherwell

TURNING ON LIGHT BULBS

You know, I miss incandescent lamp light.
LED lighting is better for the environment, BUT!

Exchanging interesting ideas, discoveries and musings illuminates our being, generating conclusions and directions that create new alignments for our hearts and minds.

Light creates warmth which encourages sharing, and sharing turns the lights on in our being.

Here are some lines of thought that have been shared of late.  I invite you to take them in, and share the lights that are turned on for you.
  • We are LUCKY if we get to be old... Social issues from the Washington Post
  • At M.I.T., Science embraces a new chaos theory: ART... courtesy of the New York Times
  • Artist Agnes Martin on Inspiration, Interruptions, Cultivating a creative atmosphere, and more... from the thought-provoking blog brainpickings
  • Building a Bridge between Engineering and the Humanities... commentary from the Chronicle of Higher Education
  • The Wisdom of Insecurity... musings from the buddhist teacher Jack Kornfield

SPOTLIGHT ON PAINTING COMMISSION

This spring I have the privilege of working on a major commission for the Hankin Group, a land development firm in Exton PA committed to sustainable buildings that combine aesthetics and purpose in home and work life. CEO Bob Hankin firmly believes that "art of consequence" is key to enriching the lives of those who spend time in a Hankin-created environment.

To date, the Hankin Group owns more than 30 Marianne Mitchell original paintings and oil pastels. I am deeply grateful for Bob's continued belief in me as an artist and support of my work, and to Jim Fuller, VP of Planning and Design, for such keen insight and interest in my work.

I am honored by a few others this spring who have chosen to commission paintings for their homes.

Happily spending weekends in the studio for a while...
