Police spokesperson John Elder says it appears the shooting happened inside a home on the 2700 block of Thomas Avenue North, just after 11 a.m.
"Paramedics were on the scene and transported this little boy to Hennepin County Medical Center with a very serious gunshot wound. This boy is in critical condition at this time," Elder said. Speaking during a noon-hour press conference broadcast by KARE TV, Elder said other people were in the home at the time of the shooting. But few other details on what led up to the shooting were immediately available.
Unauthorized immigrants could soon have a pathway to citizenship. That's under a new measure in the federal budget reconciliation package, which requires a simple majority and has the support of democratic senators. There are an estimated 5 million essential workers across the country who don't have legal status to be in the country.
Minnesota Immigrant Law Center executive director Veena Iyer says immigration reform would be beneficial for the economy as a whole.
"When we have such significant labor shortages, when we are needing to get ready for coming out of this pandemic and making sure that our economies and our communities are strong. It's critical that we make sure that the workforce that's already here in this country is able to legalize their status," Iyer said.
