PAYBACK: Former state Sen. Karen Carter Peterson of New Orleans paid $50,000 in restitution Wednesday to the Louisiana Democratic Party that she once chaired, and is likely to plead guilty in the coming days to federal charges of diverting campaign and party money to feed her gambling habit, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
SOARING: U.S. inflation accelerated in June by more than forecast, underscoring relentless price pressures that will keep the Federal Reserve on track for another big interest-rate hike later this month. Groceries, especially, are way more expensive.
CONCERTS TO COME: Now that the Essence Festival of Culture is over and the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience is taking another year (or more) off, New Orleans has no other major festivals on the calendar for the remainder of 2022. But a plethora of concerts are scheduled here for the back half of the year, and with one exception, plenty of tickets remain available.
