The only shoe museum in North America!

The Bata Shoe Museum located in Toronto, Canada is dedicated to exploring the history and cultural significance of footwear. Drawing from a world-renowned collection of nearly 15,000 shoes and shoe-related objects, the BSM presents thought-provoking exhibitions including their latest exhibit Dressed to Impress: Footwear and Consumerism in the 1980s.

The 1980s is a decade known for its bold fashions: bright colors, sharp silhouettes, cone heels, and high-status sneakers. As you're transported back to the nostalgic 80s shopping mall experience, each section of the exhibition is presented as a different 'storefront' and explores how this decade was defined by conservative politics, globalization, and technological innovation.

The exhibition features iconic footwear that consumers still rave over today like Reebok Freestyle, Air Jordan I, and even jelly shoes (thanks to Taylor Swift's 1989 TV cover!) while speaking to how one could quickly cycle through identities and trends speaks to the fast-paced consumerism of this decade.

On view until March 16, 2025.
Throughout the exhibition run, the Bata Shoe Museum will host a variety of events and workshops about the 80s! Get ready to show off your knowledge about 80s music on March 19 as you compete for some super rad prizes for Totally 80s Trivia Night! Tickets on sale now on their website.

The Bata Shoe Museum is open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Admission is FREE every Sunday.
