A nearly 200-year-old Italianate Victorian home in West London’s posh Little Venice district, recently put up for sale at $33 million, has an illustrious history with a couple of notable previous owners. Sometime after it was built in 1884, the walled and gated property was acquired by socialite and royal mistress Lillie Langtry, who entertained future king Edward VII, then the Prince of Wales, in the extant backyard gazebo. In the late 1990s, Michael “Lord of the Dance” Flatley outbid both Madonna and Barbra Streisand, paying about $6 million for the elegantly appointed home. And in New York City’s West Village, married actors Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy have listed their architect-updated 19th-century townhouse with an asking price just shy of $10 million. There are four bedrooms, five bathrooms, and three private terraces, including a rooftop patio with an outdoor kitchen. The couple plans to remain in the neighborhood. |
