SPRING CLEANING? REMEMBER TO RECYCLE As we finally turn the corner to warmer weather, New Jersey's Clean Energy Program is encouraging residents to turn old household items into cash through its Appliance Recycling program. We will haul away your refrigerators and freezers at no cost, and provide you with a $50 rebate for each appliance. During that same appointment, you can also add a room air conditioner or dehumidifier and receive $25 for each. Plus, we even pick up on Saturdays! Over 9,000 appliances are expected to be recycled this year. It's important to dispose of them in a responsible manner as some components can be hazardous if not handled correctly. We ensure that environmentally harmful refrigerants and foam are recovered and reclaimed or destroyed, and metals, plastic and glass are recycled. You Save. The Environment Wins. Learn More! Looking to recycle other types of products? Visit Earth911.org for a recycling solution and more information. |
IS YOUR HVAC SYSTEM TRYING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING? We are all happy to see the trees beginning to bud and flowers bloom! Soon, it will be time to crank up the A/C again, but will your system work this year? As your equipment ages, it becomes more inefficient, working harder and wasting energy trying to keep you cool. Just about anyone can be on the lookout for early warning signs that your system requires attention or replacement. For central air conditioning, in addition to age, warning signs may be that the unit is much louder than normal when operating or that it costs a lot more than usual to keep the area cool. Other warning signs include unusual odors coming from your ductwork or equipment, or if the unit requires frequent maintenance. It's time to start thinking about it, especially if your system is 12 to 15 years or older. If the equipment in your home or business is approaching that age, consider replacing it before an expensive breakdown. New Jersey's Clean Energy Program offers a $500 rebate for homeowners and up to $105 per ton for commercial equipment. |
ENERGY STAR® PARTNER OF THE YEAR The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) announced that New Jersey's Clean Energy Program received the 2018 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence Award for its continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency achievements. This is the ninth time over the past ten years the BPU has been honored with an ENERGY STAR award. The award spotlights the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program, which helps families make their homes more energy efficient by replacing outdated HVAC equipment and adding air sealing and insulation. The program provides financial incentives of up to $4,000 and zero percent financing on a seven-year loan up to $10,000 or 4.99% financing on a ten-year loan up to $15,000. This assistance means homeowners can invest in improvements to make their home safer, more comfortable, and enjoy lower energy bills.
