Stocks slump at close after Trump says US-China trade deal may be delayed

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 280 points lower, climbing back from a deficit of as much as 458 points. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq were down 0.7 percent and 0.6 percent, respectively.
