Arlene Foster, the first minister, revealed on Wednesday afternoon that ministers, during their meeting tomorrow, will discuss issues like the resumption of hugging and international travel. Mrs Foster said it had been noted that the easing of restrictions had been taking place in other parts of the UK. The TUV leader Jim Allister called for action over “sport fixtures and spectator attendance, public gatherings of sizeable proportions, meeting indoors, social distancing and freedom for church and like gatherings”. It will be interesting to see the outcome of tomorrow’s meeting. Despite the brilliant success of the vaccination programme in Northern Ireland, there has been a sense of us always being behind the rest of the UK in terms of escaping restrictions.
