Final DOL rule on independent contractors takes effect A final rule on independent contractors from the Department of Labor went into effect March 11. The new rule relies on a "totality-of-the-circumstances" framework with six factors to determine whether a worker should be classified as an independent contractor or an employee. Many ad executives are not convinced that TikTok will ultimately be banned in the U.S. following passage of a House bill that could do just that, but Tinuiti's Jack Johnston says this is the first time "there's really been some teeth to [TikTok legislation]."
