Good morning Valued Subscriber,
Summernats' noisiest events cannot practicably comply with imposed sound limits, an independent assessment has found. Jasper Lindell reports noise monitoring at the event in January found levels "regularly exceeded" environmental limits - and there's not really anything that can be done about it. And Jasper also reports that an 800-tonne crane stationed on Parkes Way will bring in massive steel girders for the first light rail bridge later this year. However, work to finish a new transport interchange in Woden has been delayed. Facebook failed to block scammers stealing from society's poorest for more than a year, according to workers with the homeless in Canberra. Steve Evens reports on the efforts by charity staff to get the social media behemoth to block fake sites impersonating their own appeals.
And they say it's like riding a bike. But what if you never learned in the first place? Petlee Peter meets some adult Canberrans bravely picking up a skill that most of us take for granted. It'll be harder to get out of bed this morning after overnight temperatures dropped to minus 4. Frost and cloud should clear but the top temperature is set to only reach 11.
