When I first watched it about 15 years ago, I was absolutely captivated by the pre-Code horror-drama Freaks (1932). A Rare cinematic masterpiece, that blended elements of psychological thriller, exploitation cinema, and tragic romance. A film that defied conventions and shocked audiences with its unflinching portrayal of circus life. More than just a cult classic, Freaks is a daring piece of cinema that blends horror, drama, and raw humanity, challenging societal norms about beauty, acceptance, and exploitation.

Directed by Tod Browning, the film features real-life sideshow performers, giving it an authenticity that makes it both mesmerizing and unsettling. Its infamous final act, where the so-called "outsiders" turn the tables on their tormentors, remains one of the most haunting moments in film history.
