| Friendly reminder that TRT isn't only for men. While older men stand to benefit most from testosterone replacement, the effects of drastically lower testosterone can also have a subtle but disastrous effect on libido, mood, and overall well-being in postmenopausal women. My wife, Carrie, who has used bioidentical hormone replacement therapy for a long time, includes in her regimen a small dose of testosterone. This was a later addition than all the other stuff she was using, and it's been a revelation for her (and me). I've always maintained that physical intimacy is an enormous part of a relationship. The notion that sex stops mattering the longer the relationship goes on and the older its participants get isn't just incorrect. It's completely backwards. Good sex deepens the relationship. It makes the rest of the relationship work better. And so, after consulting study after study that all found that a small dose of testosterone replacement in women after menopause had a reliable and consistent effect on libido and relationship satisfaction, she tried it. Because it is replacement. Before menopause, women do produce a decent amount of testosterone. Not a large absolute amount, but they are sensitive to it. It plays a big role. So to any older woman who wishes she had the libido she once had, talk to your doctor about testosterone replacement. I'd even go so far as to say that if an older husband has decided to take TRT to improve his cognitive function, physique, and overall sense of well-being, his wife should consider it as well.
