It's never too early to start planning for your next Fantasy draft. If you're gearing up for a Superflex league, don't miss Jamey Eisenberg's insights from our FFT team's Superflex mock draft. We saw a diverse range of quarterbacks selected, but one pairing stands out. |
Heath Cummings has compiled a list of bust candidates for the 2024 season, and you might be surprised at which quarterback leading the charge. He's also projecting a top running back in a new city who may disappoint. |
With the NFL Draft rapidly approaching, our team placed a spotlight on the running back position. Dave Richard wrote about the cut-back ability of Jonathon Brooks, while Dan Schneier highlights Trey Benson and his uncanny tackle-breaking skills. |

Superflex Mock Draft Recap |
While the quarterback landscape is set to change significantly with the 2024 NFL Draft ushering in a new crop of talent, there's plenty of signal callers to choose from without factoring in incoming rookies. In our Superflex mock, several members of our FFT team elected to take two quarterbacks in the first two rounds. After rounds one and two, Joel Cox walked away with Lamar Jackson and Brock Purdy. |
|
This makes for a dynamic duo in Superflex as he'll benefit from Jackson's playmaking ability and the plethora of weapons Purdy has around him. Thomas Shafer didn't draft a quarterback until Round 7, but if you look at his first six picks, you'll conclude that he still had a very strong draft. After loading up on wide receivers and running backs, Shafer ended up with Justin Fields, Russell Wilson, Jacoby Brissett, Joe Flacco, and Sam Howell at quarterback. |
If you're looking to prepare for your Superflex draft, you'll definitely want to read the rest of Jamey Eisenberg's Superflex recap to see how the remainder of the draft played out. |

Heath Cummings' Busts 1.0 |
Heath's bust candidates feature several unlikely candidates, but his reasoning for each player listed is rather sound. Josh Allen produced 450.6 Fantasy points last season, but a lot has changed for him since the Bills' 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Allen lost Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis this offseason and will instead be throwing to the likes of Curtis Samuel and Khalil Shakir. |
Allen still has Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox at tight end, but he's still missing a No.1 wide receiver. Even if the Bills select a wide receiver early in the 2024 NFL Draft, it would be tough for said player to be as productive as Diggs has been in Year 1. Allen also isn't likely to replicate his 15 rushing touchdowns from a season ago. So while Heath believes Allen will still be productive, I understand why he expects his numbers to drop in 2024. |
|
I was surprised to see Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane's names on Heath's bust list, but again – I understand. When it comes to Mostert, Heath believes that it's highly possible that age may catch up to the 32-year-old running back, despite posting 267.7 Fantasy points in 2023. He also has concerns about Achane's production from last season. Half of Achane's touchdowns and 44% of his yards came in two games against the Denver Broncos and the New York Giants last year. He also points to Achane's usage later in the season, which may signal that Miami does not see him as a bell cow. |
Heath also explores how D.J. Moore's value could be lessened now that he'll share targets with Keenan Allen . Moore finished the 2023 season as WR6 with 286.5 Fantasy points, but it's entirely possible that Allen could receive more red zone targets. Allen has commanded over nine targets per game throughout the course of his career, and if he does get anywhere near that number this season, that could mean less for Moore. Fantasy managers will also have to factor in that Moore will likely be playing with a rookie QB. |
At the tight end position, Heath considers Evan Engram's 2023 season an outlier and does not expect him to duplicate last season's numbers. At age 29, Engram saw 28 more targets than he ever has in a single season. He also topped his career-best in receptions and receiving yards. On top of that, Engram had a 79% catch rate. While the departure of Calvin Ridley does free up some targets in Jacksonville, it's highly likely we'll see Engram regress to the mean in 2024. |
Jonathon Brooks NFL Draft Profile |
Dave Richard gave Jonathon Brooks a glowing review, considering him a back with outstanding burst and above-average lateral quickness. Brooks saw his 2023 season come to an end when he tore his ACL against TCU in November. The 6-foot, 216-pound running back is running again since tearing his ACL, but he still has a long road ahead of him. |
|
Teams likely to take a flier on him probably already have a starting running back in place and can afford to wait for him to fully recover from his knee injury. According to Dave, the three best fits for Brooks are the Dallas Cowboys, Carolina Panthers, and the Las Vegas Raiders. |
If you're seeking a running back with similar traits to a healthy Jonathon Brooks but are uncomfortable selecting a player in Dynasty or Fantasy who is recovering from a knee injury, consider Isaiah Davis out of South Dakota State. He possesses great vision and the ability to become a threat in the passing game. If he makes an NFL roster, he'd make for an excellent Dynasty stash. |

Trey Benson NFL Draft Profile |
Dan Schneier states that Trey Benson could be RB1 in the 2024 class, and I happen to agree. Benson is indeed my RB1, and his 4.39 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine only added to the list of reasons why. He possesses outstanding contact balance and the ability to outrun defenders in the secondary. He's a true gamebreaker, and I see his game translating well to the next level. |
|
Dan's comparison for Benson makes a lot of sense and if you want to know more about how you should view him from a Fantasy perspective, be sure to give his Trey Benson scouting report a read. There are also alternatives to Benson in the 2024 NFL Draft who can likely be drafted later, look no further than Isaac Guerendo out of Louisville. He's got the same size-speed profile as Benson but may be a more patient runner by comparison. |
