In October CANSA raises awareness about the most prevalent cancers affecting SA women. The top 5 cancers currently affecting SA women include: breast, cervical, colorectal, uterine and lung cancer. Throughout the year CANSA teaches women in communities across the country about the factors that can increase personal cancer risk, symptoms of the disease to enable early detection and about cancer screening offered.

How CANSA Helps

From 2017 to 2018, CANSA reached over 1, 3 million directly through more than
4 540 000 health talks and exhibitions, distributed almost 90 000 information pamphlets and over 1 930 posters to promote health awareness campaigns and a further 135 000 youth were reached through 731 school programmes.

CANSA also conducted 11 900 Clinical Breast examinations to detect breast lumps and facilitated an additional 1500 in partnership with the Department of Health and over 6 000 Pap smears (screening test to identify women at risk of developing cancer of the cervix) and facilitated an additional 2 100 in partnership with the Department of Health.
