Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! Supporting Israel The Biden administration has issued guidance halting bilateral scientific and technological cooperation in certain Israeli-held territories. Israel is our strongest ally in the Middle East, and she deserves our support, not this antisemitic boycott. This week, I joined my Senate colleagues in writing a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, urging him to rescind this dangerous, politically motivated guidance. I will always be committed to standing against antisemitism and supporting our steadfast ally, Israel. Read more about our letter here. Standing Against China The Biden administration’s weakness on the world stage has emboldened our adversaries and put our national security at risk. In recent months, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has collaborated with communist Cuba to build a military training facility in our backyard, hacked our State Department, and helped flood our country with fentanyl. Additionally, we know the CCP has been exploiting student researchers in their longstanding effort to steal critical tech from the United States. This week, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted to advance an amendment I introduced to help secure our visa vetting system and ensure students coming to America are contributing to our communities, not undermining our national security. We must stand up to the CCP and defend Americans and our allies against their rising aggression. Intern With My Office Every year, young people from South Carolina and around the country have the opportunity to get involved in their government by interning in one of my offices. I am now accepting applications for internships in my Washington, D.C., North Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville offices for the Fall of 2023. The internship program offers undergraduate and graduate students the chance to work with public service professionals and gain practical experience in constituent services, government policy, and more. Students of all majors, particularly those studying governmental affairs, public policy, or communications, are welcome to apply. Learn more internship opportunities here. Spilling The #SCSweetTea on Faith in the Palmetto State In South Carolina, we believe in the faith-filled values that make our nation the greatest on earth. I’m encouraged to see volunteers from First Baptist Church of Wagener living the gospel truth and redeeming their communities. Its youth ministry not only roofs houses for those in need, but points them back to the Lord – the source of lasting hope for their lives. Read more about their ministry here! Sincerely, |
