~Robert Benchley It was two o'clock in the morning, and our dog, Mocha, hadn't adhered to the timeline I had set for her. She was supposed to deliver her puppies in the evening so that my ten- and twelve-year-old children could observe the wonder of birth. I thought it was ironic that, as a pediatrician, I was being called on to help our dog. I was on my third cup of coffee while Mocha labored. Since we acquired her, Mocha had always done things her way. She couldn't be broken of the habit of eating tissues out of the garbage cans or the cat's droppings.
