The first smaller format Meijer Grocery stores open in Michigan

The smaller format stores are designed to streamline shopping.

Meijer has opened the first two of its smaller format Meijer Grocery outlets in Michigan’s Orion Township and Macomb Township. Outlets will have products and services from the “essential” categories a customer might need for a quick trip or weekly restock. The condensed layout is designed to simplify the shopping experience.

Shoppers ramp up online grocery purchasing: survey results

In a December survey of consumers who had bought groceries online in the previous 90 days, 56% indicated that they are buying more frequently.

Consumers also named food blogs, recipe sites, and social media platforms as their top sources of online meal inspiration. About 74% of the consumers cited convenience as a top driver of their decision to order groceries online. It was followed by price (37%), accessibility (35%), habit (24%), health concerns (22%).

Save A Lot to shutter two distribution centers

Discount store chain Save A Lot will close two distribution centers and reduce staff at its St. Louis support center.

The Coxsackie, N.Y., distribution center is scheduled to close February 25, and the St. Johns, Mich., center is set for a March 11 closing. Save A Lot announced in 2020 that it was transitioning to a wholesale business model. It planned to sell more than 300 corporate-operated locations to current and new retail partners.
