Today marks the beginning ofMakuru (Jun & Jul), the first rains and fertility season. Makuru is the coldest and wettest time of the year as the winds turn to the west and south bringing cold weather, and rain. Look out for the colours of blues and purples, as the delicate flowers of the Blueberry Lilly (Dianella revoluta) and the Purple Flags (Patersonia occidentalis) begin to show. Makuru is a time for a lot of animals to begin pairing up in preparation for breeding in the next season. Look up and you may see previously solitary birds like the Wardong (Ravens) now flying in pairs. Source: Bureau of Meteorology andDerbal Nara. |
