Free organic salad seeds Register your veggie patch (free & easy!) to receive a packet of organic salad seeds. The first 150 Cockburn residents who register, will receive a free packet of seeds home delivered via the mail by August (just in time for Spring planting). Wednesday 3 June Join The Forever Project online in a discussion on how to strengthen community connections in your neighbourhood, tips and tricks that will empower you to enhance your nighbourhood. Online workshops topics will include:
Saturday 6 June Are you keen to trying growing veggies and herbs in your garden? OR have you started to garden since isolation and want to know more? Shani Graham from Ecoburbia has been eating from her garden for more than 15 years, and she is excited to share what she knows. This online workshop will look soil preparation, planting seeds and seedlings, watering methods, mulching your garden and what to grow when. You will have a virtual tour of a great veggie garden in action and can ask lots of questions. You will leave with everything you need to know to enjoy a bumper crop this season.
Saturday 13 June (Cockburn residents only) Worms are a great way to convert your kitchen waste into liquid fertiliser and castings that are great for plants. You will learn all about the art of worm farming from the experts at The Worm Shed in this one-hour online workshop delivered through Zoom. Purchase a ticket today and we'll send you a link to sign up to the workshop - you can view it through your PC, phone or tablet and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions using our Q&A feature. You don't need a microphone or camera to view the workshop. Following the workshop, attendees will be able to purchase a subsidised Advanced Set Up Worm Cafe for $85. Information about how to make payment will be provided during the workshop. You'll need to provide proof of your address in City of Cockburn in order to access the subsidised price. Your worm farm will be delivered to your house by The Worm Shed the following week. Don't worry - we'll make it a contactless delivery to a location you nominate!

Have you got a challenging spot in your garden that you need help with? Send in a photo (when you register) and the expert team from The Forever Project will offer suggestions and strategies during this online workshop to keep you moving forward.
Saturday 27 June Do you remember holding the warm egg you collected from under a chicken, the reassuring “book book” sound in the chook pen and the excitement of cooking that egg for breakfast? During this online workshop Shani Graham from Ecoburbia will cover many aspects of keeping chooks. She will discuss how to get chickens, local laws that might affect you, chook housing needs and how to feed and care for them. You will get to meet some of the chooks from Ecoburbia during a virtual tour, and there’ll be lots of time for questions.
6 - 28 May Educated by Nature has launched a new online nature connection mentoring program to support children to create nature connection routines at home or in nearby natural spaces, like local bushland. The City of Cockburn is proud to support its residents in nature connection by providing free family subsidies for one program session. This means your family can try a session for free and if you like it, sign up for the whole series. Families can choose to attend individual sessions or a whole series.
Celebrate International Day for Biological Diversity, 22nd May, by exploring our Pop-up Wildlife Trails. Hunt for the signs at local wetlands and bushland areas including Yangebup and Little Rush Lakes in Yangebup, Market Garden Park in Spearwood, Lake Coogee in Lake Coogee and Banksia Eucalypt Woodland Park in Aubin Grove. Explore the many conservation reserves across Cockburn and see how we are working towards protecting our environment. The United Nations proclaimed May 22 International Day for Biological Diversity to increase global understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. This years theme “Our solutions are in nature” emphasises hope, solidarity and the importance of working together at all levels to build a future of life in harmony with nature.
