Australia is poised to stage the 2022 FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships in December this year according to reports published in Sydney today.

The Sunday Telegraph report said that FINA had confirmed that it is in advanced, exclusive discussions with Swimming Australia to host the 16th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in December 2022.

“Both FINA and Swimming Australia expect to announce more details on the exact location and dates of the event in short order,” FINA told the paper.

Joseph Schooling to Reassess Olympic Cycle Plan after SEA Games

Joseph Schooling, the 2016 Olympic champion in the men’s 100 butterfly, said in an interview this week that he will reassess his plan for the road to the 2024 Olympics.

Schooling is 26. He’s scheduled to compete at the Southeast Asian Games in May in Hanoi, Vietnam, as well as the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. But whether the Singapore sporting icon will vie for a spot at a fourth Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 remains an open question.

“I’m going to be 27 this year, and there are a lot of things outside the pool that I’ll want to move on to after I’m done swimming,” Schooling told Yahoo News Singapore. “Right now the question is, ‘Okay, do I still want to do Paris? Or do I stop and reassess where I want to go after the Asian Games?’

Natalie Coughlin – 3-Time Olympian, 12-Time Olympic Medalist – To Be Inducted Into International Swimming Hall of Fame

Natalie  Coughlin was a U.S. competitive swimmer, three-time Olympian and twelve-time Olympic medalist (3 Gold, 4 S, 5 B).  She attended UC Berkeley, swimming for the Golden Bears under Coach Teri McKeever. Natalie became the first woman to swim the 100-meter backstroke, long course, in less than one minute in 2002.  She achieved that milestone at the International Swimming Hall of Fame Aquatic Complex during the U.S. Nationals in Fort Lauderdale.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Natalie became the first U.S. female athlete in modern Olympic history to win six medals in one Olympiad and the first woman ever to win a 100-meter backstroke gold in two consecutive Games.  She competed in her third Olympic Games in London in 2012, where she earned a bronze medal in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay.

U.S. International Team Trials: Katie Ledecky Swims Sixth-Fastest 800 Free in History; Leah Smith Returns to Worlds Team

It’s been a decade since Katie Ledecky emerged on the global scene, a gold medal secured in the 800-meter freestyle at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. During the ensuing years, Ledecky has made the distance-freestyle events her personal domain, the opposition unable to match the American superstar over 800 and 1500 meters.

So the dominance that Ledecky showed Tuesday night was to be expected. What was surprising was watching Ledecky challenge her world-record pace in the 800 free for the first time in years.

U.S. International Team Trials: Ryan Murphy Rallies To Claim Title in 200 Backstroke; Posts Top Time In the World

Since 2016, backstroke supremacy in the United States – and frequently the world – has gone through Ryan Murphy. Aside from winning double gold at the 2016 Olympic Games, Murphy is a world-record holder, multi-time World Championships medalists and a leader for Team USA.

But when Shaine Casas earned the top seed for the final of the 200-meter backstroke at the USA Swimming International Team Trials on Wednesday morning, a sub-1:56 marker doing the job, one had to wonder: Was Murphy beatable?
