Friend, Joe Biden was just sworn in as the 46th president of the United States. Kamala Harris is the first Black, South Asian and woman vice president in U.S. history. This is momentous. And it’s been a long 4 years. Trump left the White House this morning and Chairman Pai is officially gone from the FCC, but we’ve been left with their legacy of cruelty and incompetence. There’s a lot of work that needs to happen to move forward, and we have a plan for that. But today, it’s important that we rest, and take care of ourselves — so that we can continue to take care of democracy tomorrow. Here’s a list of 5 things you can do for self-care right now: Drink water. Log off Twitter. Meditate or check in with a friend. Take a walk (if you are able and it’s safe to do so). Do something creative that brings you joy (baking, writing, knitting, etc.). And don’t forget to wear a mask! In the words of antiracism scholar Ibram X. Kendi: “Joy today. Resolve tomorrow.”1 Thanks for all you do, Lucia and the rest of the Free Press team freepress.net
