Good evening There is no doubt that the UK’s vaccine roll-out has been a resounding success so far. We have vaccinated more than half the adult population at a lightning speed to halt the spread of the virus and keep the most vulnerable amongst us safe. Only recently, Lancashire was saying things were going so well that the aim was to have everyone vaccinated by the end of July with both doses - not just the one being promised by the Prime Minister. But now, it appears, it may be stopped in its tracks because of arguments over the supply chain coming from the European Union. The EU has threatened to stop more vaccines from leaving its shores until it catches up with the kind of numbers we are doing in the UK. You can understand their panic. They have made a hash of the roll-out, partly because they don’t have an existing infrastructure and partly because they caused vaccine hesitancy themselves. But stopping the supply of vaccines bound by a legal contract is not the answer. What they need to do is ask for help. Once all Covid restrictions are lifted and we can live our lives as we did before the pandemic, we believe the government should create a National Day of celebration. Take part in our quick survey here so you can have your say on when this special day should take place, if it should be a one-off celebration or annual event and what sort of festivities you would like to see.
