Dec. 10, 2019 Hang in there, one more subzero day to endure. This week’s cold snap peaks tomorrow morning when temperatures bottom out between minus 10 and minus 18 across Minnesota. The rest of this week will be significantly warmer, with highs in the mid-20s on Thursday and mid-30s on Friday in the metro area. Bundle up and stay warm! Duluth City Council saves financially struggling Spirit Mountain. In an 8-1 vote, councilors approved to provide $235,000 in aid to the financially beleaguered ski hill, Duluth News Tribune reports. Funding for the subsidy will come from the city of Duluth's tourism tax reserves. Merriam-Webster’s word of the year 2019 goes to “they.” Runners-up include 'quid pro quo,' 'impeach' and 'the.' The dictionary’s online search site saw a 313 percent increase in look-ups of the word, which has been emerging as a nonbinary alternative to "he" and "she." One more Democratic governor in, the party’s getting close to holding majority of state governorships. Now that Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear is sworn in, Democrats are just one seat away from evenly splitting state governorships with Republicans — the closest they’ve been in the past decade. Fighting the freeze with fashion? Being prepared for the cold should be a point of pride! Take a photo of yourself all bundled up for tomorrow’s temps and tag it with @MPRNews on Twitter and Instagram. We’ll share your photos in an online gallery. — Jiwon Choi, MPR News |
