Dear Friend,

Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina!

As tensions escalate in the Middle East, I want to be clear: Israel has the right and responsibility to defend itself against Iran’s growing nuclear capabilities. The United States must continue to stand firmly with our ally, support Israel’s right to self-defense, and ensure the safety of our service members in the region.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Strengthening and Expanding Benefits for Workers

Giving businesses the flexibility to better provide for their workers isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s common sense. That’s why I introduced the Strengthening Benefit Plans Act of 2025 to allow surplus funds to be moved to help with active health benefits. Specifically, this legislation would allow for overfunded 401(H) retiree pension accounts to be transferred to help pay for active healthcare programs.

Taking a Bold and Historic Step Forward

On Wednesday, I was proud to see the United States Senate take an important step towards passing the bipartisanGuiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act—legislation I co-sponsored to establish a clear regulatory framework for payment stablecoins.

Ahead of the vote, I spoke on the Senate floor to highlight the importance of passing the bill to protect consumers, bolster our national security, expand financial inclusion, and assert U.S. leadership in digital assets. The GENIUS Act is the result of months of good-faith, bipartisan negotiations and has benefited from extensive consultation with industry participants, legal and academic experts, and government stakeholders.

Congratulations to Rear Admiral James H. Flatley III on receiving the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian honor. Presented aboard the USS Yorktown, this award is a fitting tribute to a man whose life has been defined by service—from flying combat missions in Vietnam to making aviation history and preserving naval heritage. Admiral Flatley's dedication, humility, and leadership continue to inspire all who know his story. His legacy, both in the Navy and in the community, is a shining example of honor and sacrifice. The Washington Examiner: The Senate is set to deliver on historic digital assets legislation

By Senator Tim Scott

June 12, 2025

It was clear as I traveled across the country with President Donald Trump last year in the lead-up to the 2024 election that the public wants access to digital assets. On the campaign trail, Trump pledged to make the United States the cryptocurrency capital of the world.

After four years of former President Joe Biden and his Democratic allies in Congress shutting the door on crypto, pushing the industry offshore, voters called for a new approach that onshored innovation to the U.S. Right now, my colleagues and I have the opportunity to help Trump deliver on one of his promises to the people and assert U.S. leadership in digital assets.

For too long, the digital asset industry has operated without clear guidelines, leaving consumers vulnerable and stifling American innovation. With the Senate set to pass the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins, legislation I helped write to provide a regulatory framework for payment stablecoins, we have an opportunity to change that. Stablecoins enable faster, cheaper, and competitive transactions, facilitate seamless cross-border payments, and could enhance financial inclusion for Americans across the country. But to do so, clear rules of the road are needed.
