Now the fun begins. The LSU baseball team completed the non-conference weekend part of its schedule Sunday, running its record to 16-1 with a sweep of North Alabama. The Tigers head into SEC play this weekend, hosting Missouri which appears to be the worst team in the conference (LSU first hosts Xavier of Ohio at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, SECNetwork+). That said, the conference is the S-E-C, which is the American League without the luxury tax — it's that tough. Our Koki Riley has taken stock of the Tigers in his latest edition of "5 takeaways." We know you're going to like it more than "Paddington in Peru," though admittedly that probably isn't a high bar. The Saints made a big trade with New England with the new NFL year about to begin, bringing back Louisiana native and former LSU Tiger Davon Godchaux to play defensive tackle. Here's five things to know about him as well (I assume you're sensing a trend here). What's trending, what's more cool on the LSU campus right now than the Tigers' softball team. LSU ran its record to 23-1 over the weekend and is ranked No. 4 nationally. LSU coach Beth Torina is reveling in her team's start and why not? But things are about to get serious for those Tigers as well. They host arch in-state rival ULL at 6 p.m. Tuesday (SECNetwork+) then host Kentucky in the SEC opening weekend Friday through Sunday. Finally, the No. 2-ranked LSU gymnastics Tigers are looking strong after posting the nation's best score in Friday's 198.575-197.175 victory over Georgia. But a couple of key injuries to Olivia Dunne and Kaliya Lincoln are clouding the horizon just a tad. Still, the Tigers have plenty of depth at their disposal as they go to Auburn this Friday (7 p.m., SECNetwork+) in pursuit of at least a share of the SEC regular-season championship. That's all we've got today folks. Just some light early week reading. Thanks for reading and subscribing and please tell a friend. Scott Rabalais |
