A New Orleans City Council committee was expected to hear from a handful of officials this morning holding forth on crime-fighting plans, including NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson and Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson, whose agency has been in the news this week. Historic nomination: President Joe Biden has nominated Dana Douglas, a magistrate at U.S. District Court in New Orleans, for an open seat on the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. If confirmed by the Senate, Douglas would become the first minority woman on the federal appeals court that oversees district courts in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi, John Simerman reports.
