Residents told to stay alert: Efforts to contain two fires which started on Sunday in the Hunter Valley continue. A fire in the Wollemi National Park at Baerami Creek remains out of control. Air tankers and helicopters have been called in to try and prevent its spread, but the Rural Fire Service says containing it has proven difficult because the area is so isolated. A fire at Scone is being controlled but people north of Gundy Road are urged to stay on alert. Extreme fire conditions continue ahead of predicted rain in parts of the Hunter. Jets for sale: The time is right to find a new owner for the Newcastle Jets Football Club, according to its general manager Shane Mattiske. The club was officially listed for sale on Monday, with a management firm appointed to direct the process and communicate with potential buyers. Its current owners are a consortium connected to other A-League clubs, which formed in 2021. Mr Mattiske says he's confident the club will attract a suitable buyer before the end of the year. Mixed results for Jets: The Newcastle Jets men's side kicked of its A-League season with a 2-all draw with Perth Glory. In its second game of the season the Jets women suffered a 1-0 defeat against Perth. The women have a week off this weekend, while the men will take on Victory in Melbourne. |
