Welcome to your tech-shiny Saturday, friend! Pop quiz: Which retailer has topped the revenue charts every single quarter for the last 36 years? Before the big reveal, here’s a jaw-dropper: Last quarter, Amazon took over with $187 billion in sales. That’s enough cash to almost buy every single NFL team! So, who finally got knocked off the top spot? Walmart, of course. And to think Jeff Bezos started by selling used books in a garage.

Zero, zilch, nada: My privacy secret weapon eliminated spam calls and texts on my phone. I negotiated a 60% discount just for you. More below! It’s a big day, and I have a heck of a lot to share. Let’s do this. — Kim

TODAY'S TECH HACK

Punt intended

Oh, baby, it’s the day I’ve been waiting for all season! It’s time for … uh, Travis Kelce’s team and, well, those other guys to play. Kidding, kidding. I know it’s the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. I also know a bunch of tips and tricks to make your game day smoother.

Let’s start with where to watch

Still have cable? You’re all set. For my streaming pals, the game is broadcast on Fox, so you’re good to go with any streaming service that includes it. That’s Fubo, DirecTV Stream, Sling TV, YouTube TV and Hulu with Live TV.

Don’t use any of those? Hit this link for a free Tubi account. The others do free trials, too, but with Tubi, there’s no credit card required, so you won’t get charged after you forget to cancel. The pre-show starts at 3:30 p.m. EST and the game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. EST.

📺 You might be tempted to change your TV’s picture mode to Game. Don't. That's for video games. The best setting for football is Cinema or Movie. Sports is generally too bright and makes the game look washed out.

No lag, please

If you can, connect your TV or streaming box directly to your router via an Ethernet cable. It’s more reliable than Wi‑Fi, especially during peak times. You don’t want to hear the neighbors cheering when your connection craps out, trust me.

✋ Remind everyone in the house online gaming, video calls and streaming eat up bandwidth. Feeling techy? Set up a new guest network and punt the kids over to that.

No spoilers, either

Sports and news apps always fight to be the first to update you on the score and final result. You never know when you might end up a few seconds (or minutes) behind, and you don’t want your phone to spoil it. Hit my site for the steps to set your phone up the right way.

I’m just here for the commercials. Me, too, pal. It’s tough to find all the links ahead of time, but this YouTube channel reliably compiles them as soon as they air.

🛍️ While you’re pretending to watch the game … Here are two lesser-known ways to save a buck on Amazon: 1.) Resale has excellent deals on used and open-box products, and 2.) Outlet is your spot for low prices on all the “Oops, we have too many” items. This outlet extender with a built-in shelf is sweet.

👋 Not into football? Watch me! Yep, there are a bunch of episodes of my fun tech video podcast waiting for you on YouTube. Prepare to laugh a lot!

So, there's the Super Bowl. After that, it’s the Mega Bowl. Then, after that, there's the Giga Bowl. Anymore more would just be Tera Bowl.

Stop spam texts before they stop you

Here’s a stat that’ll make your jaw drop: Spammers are pushing out over 150% more texts every year. That’s millions of junk texts cluttering our inboxes. Ever wonder how they got your number in the first place?

Your personal info is sold online dirt cheap. Data brokers and people-search sites make billions packaging it up and selling to anyone willing to pay. And yes, it’s all legal as long they give you a way to opt out.

Here’s the catch: They make the opt-out process as difficult as possible and change it up just when folks figure it out. My pro tip: Try Incogni. Create an account, then they scrub your personal details from the web for you. Goodbye, spam texts and calls. Use my link to save 60%.

DEALS OF THE DAY

Love is in the cart

💝 The only thing sweeter than your valentine? These deals.

  • Grab a card game (20% off) for deep convos or this one ($25) that’s a lot sillier.
  • Put your favorite pic on this custom Spotify plaque ($10) with the soundtrack of your love story.
  • Need to vent? Write all your troubles on a funny notepad ($7.25).
  • Upgrade their headphones to Raycons.* Their earbuds sound great, get a ton of battery life and are a fraction of the price.
  • Hug it out with cute salt-and-pepper (11% off) shakers.
  • Celebrating Singles Awareness Day? Gift yourself under-eye patches (17% off).

Smart home upgrade: It only costs $30 to make your garage door smart, just sayin’. I love being able to check if mine is closed no matter where I am.

WEB WATERCOOLER

Watch out for fake job offers: Say you land a virtual job interview. When you click the link to start, an error message pops up saying it’s time to update Zoom or Google Chrome. Stop! That update is malware. It’s part of North Korean hackers' “Contagious Interview campaign.” Yeesh, what a name. Always download updates from official sources, not random links.

No denying this Tex appeal: Texas just banned Chinese-backed AI and social media apps from all state-issued devices. That means employees and contractors can’t download or use apps like DeepSeek, RedNote, Lemon8 and others. Before you say it's overkill, DeepSeek’s iOS app is literally sending unencrypted data to ByteDance-controlled servers. That’s a national security risk, plain and simple. Expect this at the federal level soon.

🔥 Can’t make this up: LG is recalling 500,000 electric stoves after 28 house fires and several injuries. Full list of affected models here. Now, they aren’t offering refunds. No, not exchanges, either. Instead, customers get warning stickers to remind them to push a lock button to prevent “unintentional activation” of the front-mounted knobs. Kids and pets totally read warning labels …

💸 Petty or justified? Half the time I get a food delivery, it arrives cold or with something missing. A gal got a note with her Uber Eats order that said, “Hi, your Uber Eats driver ate lunch in our store while your order was already ready to go. I’ve remade it fresh. Give him 1 star.” The picture went viral, sparking hundreds of comments. That $3.99 for priority delivery doesn’t seem so bad now.

Meet the new crimelords: Guess how much money online scammers steal in a year. The answer? About $12.5 billion in the U.S. and $500 billion worldwide. That’s about as much as the illegal drug trade (paywall link). Unlike street gangs who fight for territory, the internet has no boundaries. AI face-changing apps and translation tools are making scams easier to pull off. Click this link to report fraud if you spot it.

😱 Got a Zyxel router? It’s time for an upgrade. Hackers found ways to control them, and Zyxel says no fix is coming. They’re still for sale on Amazon. This is why you need me. Hit this link for my router picks, then follow these steps to wipe the old one clean.

One more place to watch out for TV spoilers: A podcast about the dystopian TV series “Severance” on Apple TV+ included an ad for an episode that hadn't aired yet. Director Ben Stiller dropped a bombshell (paywall link). Yeah, fans are peeved. “Severance” is fantastic and weird. Here’s the spoiler-free trailer if you need a new show.

📞 Hate robocallers? Me, too. Get this: Scammers pretending to be the FCC’s “Fraud Prevention Team” threatened folks with jail time for “crimes against the state” unless they paid them $1,000 in Google gift cards. They placed 1,797 calls before their VoIP provider, Telnyx, spotted anything wrong. The FCC’s proposed fine for Telnyx? A whopping $4,492,500 for not verifying the scammers’ identities when they signed up. What do you call a Polish telemarketer? A telephone Pole.

TECH LIFE UPGRADES

Ready for a new career? Type out your degrees or certifications, past jobs, and any big projects you’ve worked on. Open your favorite chatbot (like ChatGPT) and prompt, “Identify high-income skills relevant to [your experience] in [your field] and my passion for [your skills]." See what it comes back with. I got “AI and Automation Strategy” making $250 to $500 per hour. Let me know what you get.

Let’s cook: Planning a surprise Valentine's Day dinner? Try Google’s Food Mood AI for a fun recipe. Just choose a starter, main course or dessert. Then, pick the number of people and two countries to mix flavors. Press the three lines on the bottom for dietary options like vegetarian or gluten-free, or type a no-go ingredient. Bon appétit!

👋 Bye-bye: Remove the background from a photo in your iPhone’s Files app. Go to Photos and tap Select on the right. Choose the photo you want to move and press Share > Save to Files to import. Then, open Files > Quick Actions > Remove Background to make a new copy of your pic.

On Android? You probably don’t have a built-in option for removing backgrounds. Here’s a site that does it for free. Upload your pic and, poof, watch it disappear. Hit Download when you’re done.

📱 Better than caller ID: Is that call important? If you have AT&T, you can now see who’s calling and why. When a biz calls you, they can choose to show a message like “refill reminder” or “package delivery.” It’ll pop up as the call comes in. Right now, this is only available on Android phones with Verified Calls.

📖 Storytime: Create a shared e‑book library for your whole family to enjoy. On Kindle, head to Menu > Settings > Household & Family Library > Add a New Person > Add Adult or Child (click here for parental controls info). Hit Next, tap Done and you’re all set.

Look good, feel good: You deserve to feel your best. Collagen has been a staple in my routine for years. Grab NativePath Collagen here with my link to save 45%.* Three cheers for younger-looking skin.

BY THE NUMBERS

$2.5 decillion

What Russia wanted to fine Google. That’s 33 zeros, and it’s about 237,000 times more than all the money in the world. Why? YouTube blocked some of Russia's state-owned TV channels. A court just stepped in and blocked it. You know, in case Google was checking the couch cushions.

$1.39 billion

How much Americans are expected to bet on the Super Bowl. That’s an 11.2% increase from last year’s big game. If you want to play, use code KIM to get $200 in bonus bets when you bet just five bucks. Play online or download the DraftKings Sportsbook app for iPhone or Android.** Fingers crossed for you!

Less than $50

What an antique collector paid for a suspected Van Gogh painting. It was the deal of the century at a garage sale in Minnesota. Specialists are trying to prove the portrait of a fisherman, “Elimar,” is authentic. If so, it’s worth at least $15 million (paywall link). Speaking of … My Van doesn't Gogh. It's out of Degas. (I saw you smile right there.)

WHAT THE TECH?

What the tech?

I haven’t seen ANY of these, but I really liked the Netflix movie “Here.” It was done entirely in AI.

UNTIL NEXT TIME ...

📻 “Kim, is that all?” No way! Now it’s time to catch my award-winning national radio show. I’m on over 420 stations across the USA! Find your local station and tune in, or get my show’s podcast. I’m sharing all kinds of tech goodies, plus taking calls from smart guys and gals like you. And I have some pretty good jokes this week if I do say so myself.

As we were driving down the road, “Sweet Caroline” came on the radio. I said to my son, “Little-known fact: Neil Diamond used to be called Neil Coal until the pressure got to him.” Ian groaned like you just did!

Privacy? It’s possible. Incogni has sent 1,175 requests to data-broker and people-search sites on my behalf. I’ve tried doing this myself over the years, and I was happy if I got to a dozen. There’s a 30-day money-back guarantee, too, so you have nothing to lose. Use my link for 60% off. Now, go forth and have a beautiful weekend, friend! — Kim
