| Facebook Locks Out Trump for the Rest of His Presidency | | | | We continue to cover the fallout of Wednesday’s shocking events in Washington, D.C. Facebook has locked out Trump for the rest of his presidency, reports Scott Nover. That’s one of a number of digital platforms that has finally taken action against the president for appearing to incite the insurrection at the Capitol. Twitch and Snapchat have also disabled Trump’s account. Shopify has closed the doors of Trump's official online stores. If Trump is finally being de-platformed from mainstream sites, the question hangs on what vacuum he will leave. There are alternatives like Parler and Gab, and I’d imagine more that will crop up, which have open arms. But these suspensions could all be temporary. With a new administration around the corner, mainstream platforms have an opportunity to shine a little self-awareness on themselves, their leaders and algorithm developers.
