One of Australia's largest payers of excise, Carlton and United Breweries (CUB) provided Customs officers and spouses free beer, lunches and tickets to concerts, the Melbourne Cup and the Adelaide Grand Prix in a little more than a year, The Canberra Times reported on this day in 1994. Carlton provided 30 slabs of beer for the Customs Christmas party at Inland Revenue, Victoria, while Remy Australia provided a dozen bottles of wine and two bottles of spirits.
