Apple’s decision to move away from Intel CPUs and the X86 architecture has generated a lot of attention. We set out to test the brand new Apple Developer Transition Kit with Archiware P5. Our goal was to learn more about the upcoming ARM architecture combined with Apple's Rosetta 2 translation software layer.

Upcoming Webinar: Portable Video Production Storage and Portable Archive

Production, as well as post-production, becomes more flexible and mobile by using portable devices. The new Accusys Gamma Carry RAID combined with Archiware P5 and mLogic mTape offers great performance and forms a complete setup, including Backup and long-term Archive.

In this Webinar Wednesday, we'll show how to use the latter with Premiere, Resolve and Final Cut Pro for editing and color grading. P5 Archive serves as a MAM-like Archive, either at ingest or when the project is completed.

5 Reasons to Choose LTO Tape

With ever-growing storage demand - especially in the media industry - finding the best storage medium is a more pressing problem than ever. LTO tape remains the obvious choice and will continue to do so in the future. Why?

1. Long-Term Storage: Tape storage has been around for decades and has evolved to be the most durable long-term storage available. Tape has a proven readability of 30 years. No other medium has this proven track record.
2. Cost-Effective: At about 10 USD/EUR per Terabyte, LTO tape is the most cost-effective storage medium. Additionally, it is easily scalable and requires about 90 % less electric power and cooling.
3. Ransomware Protection: With ever increasing risks through malware and ransomware attacks, the built-in air gap of LTO tape makes data practically immune to any attack.
4. Saves Production Storage: Data no longer needed in production can be moved by P5 Archive to a long-term archive. This optimizes the overall investment in storage and also reduces the size of the Backup.
5. Balances the Risks: To limit technology-related risks, it is necessary to use different media for saving data. Tape is a perfect complement to disk. Regular backups to LTO can save the day in case of disk failure.
