Two teenagers injured during Exxon gas station explosion in Rogers VIDEO: A 13 and 16-year old were injured in a gas explosion that took place late Thursday night in Rogers, according to the Bell County fire marshal. The explosion took place at an Exxon gas station located on 120 W Mesquite Ave. According to officials, the two victims were inside washing their car, as a fuel tanker was unloading into the fuel tanks. The cause of the explosion has yet to be determined, according to the fire marshal. The two victims were taken to a local hospital with serious burns, but were later released. Firefighters are still working to confirm the condition of the fuel tanker driver and whether other people were inside the gas station during the explosion. The state's fire marshal office is currently investigating. KCEN-TV NBC 6 TEMPLE Corpus Christi Fire Department expands water rescue resources with new boat VIDEO: The Corpus Christi Fire Department is expanding their resources with the addition of a new rescue boat. CCFD Cpt. David Zarate said that because of Station 1's proximity to the Bayfront, having a rescue boat will help bolster their efficiency when it comes to water rescues. "In our area we do a lot of boat responses in our area, being that we're in this downtown area in the marina," he said. The boat has a price mark of around $80,000 and comes with a slew of new features. "It has a large deck that allows us to rescue multiple individuals that might be stranded at the marina or in the bay or wherever the case may be," said the CCFD official. According to Zarate, the boat's most noticeable selling point is that it provides an increase in accessibility. KIII-TV ABC 3 CORPUS CHRISTI Heavy fire put out at Jacksonville home The Jacksonville Fire Department said that they made a "great stop" on a structure fire at 502 San Antonio Street on Thursday. Officials said that firefighters received a call about the fire around 7:45 a.m., and when firefighters arrived, they found "heavy fire and smoke conditions" inside the single-story home. According to Jacksonville Fire, the home was reportedly vacant but they were told at least one person could be inside. Officials said that firefighters were able to bring the fire under control around 9 a.m. and no injuries were reported. The Jacksonville Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire. KETK-TV NBC 56 JACKSONVILLE One person injured after fire at Round Rock home Firefighters in Round Rock said one person was injured Thursday after a fire at a home. According to the Round Rock Fire Department, a man called 911 at approximately 3 a.m. for a living room fire in the 800 block of East Palm Valley Blvd. Firefighters said the man sustained non-life-threatening burns to the tops of his hands. The fire chief said the cause of the fire was unknown, and investigators were waiting for the sun to rise to go inside and look around. According to RRFD, there was no damage to any neighboring businesses. First responders said Hwy. 79 was shut down in order to access the house and the fire hydrant across the street. The Round Rock Police Department also assisted with traffic, shutting down the eastbound and westbound lanes of Heritage Center Circle to north Georgetown St., which have since reopened. VIDEOS: Day care in Washington, D.C. safely evacuated minutes before fiery blast leveled adjacent building PHOTOS: A Washington, D.C. day care center full of children was safely evacuated shortly before a gas explosion ignited a fire on the floor above and collapsed the building next door. Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly spoke with reporters Thursday at the scene of the fiery blast in the 1200 block Marion Barry Avenue as firefighters continued to douse the flames with water. Crews responded to the busy southeast Washington neighborhood after receiving a call for a gas leak shortly after 9:30 a.m. The first responders determined that the leak was beyond repair and began evacuating buildings from the block. That quick thinking likely saved lives because about 25 minutes after that first 911 call, Donnelly said an explosion blasted the upper level of the two-story building where the day care was located. WTTG-TV FOX 5 WASHINGTON, D.C. Related Video: Gas explosion in DC after Fire and EMS responds to gas leak Georgia fire station to offer apartments for rent above it VIDEO: Atlanta Fire Station 15 on Tenth Street in Midtown is being planned with apartments on top of it. Some who live and work in the area found that surprising. "Why put it on top of the fire station? That don't even make no sense," said Nile Hollis. "I think it's different. You'll see a mall or a Starbucks, underneath apartment buildings, but a fire station?" said Terrance Rodney Lucas. The plan is to completely renovate the fire station and build affordable apartments above it. City officials say there will be a significant number of apartments, somewhere in the range of 80 to 120 or more. While other cities have put housing on top of fire stations, this is something new for Atlanta. "This is the latest effort to use innovation to bring affordable housing to the heart of Midtown," said Courtney English, chief policy officer for city of Atlanta. WAGA-TV FOX 5 ATLANTA County in Pennsylvania approves full tax rebate for volunteer first responders Fire and EMS departments nationwide are struggling to find volunteers, including in York County. "It's more of a crisis than people realize it is," said Chad Deardorff, president of the York County Fire Chiefs and Firefighters Association. That's why the county is taking big steps in an effort to help. "They are risking their lives to keep our communities safe, so it's really important for us to do what we can to help incentivize and motivate folks to want to be volunteer firefighters," said Julie Wheeler, York County President Commissioner. On Wednesday, the county's Board of Commissioners approved an up to 100% county tax rebate for active volunteer firefighters and EMS workers, along with a 50% rebate for auxiliary members. You must own a home to be eligible for the rebate. WPMT-TV FOX 43 YORK News anchor writes children's books as tribute to deceased Florida firefighter As Brittany Jones and her fiancé Mike Freeland drove down a road in Jacksonville on Aug 16, 2019, they spotted a car on fire. As a seasoned newsperson, Jones was familiar with pulling over to cover spot news, but this situation was different. She was not working. While her Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department firefighter fiancé also was off duty, there was no way he was going to pass a motorist in great distress and not help. He immediately stopped the car and jumped into action, while Brittany watched. "Mike ran to a nearby Wendy's and got a fire extinguisher and put those flames out," an impressed Jones said. "Mike was adamant about helping this motorist in distress, that was his character, his heart. He cared about people." FLORIDA COURIER PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
