VIDEO: Multiple school buses catch fire at lot in northwest Dallas area, cause explosion Multiple school buses caught fire at a lot on Thursday afternoon, sending thick, black smoke around the Northwest Dallas area. Crews battled the fire at a lot near Interstate 35E and Manana Drive. It's unclear what led to the fire. Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) said it responded around 3:30 p.m. after receiving calls about a tractor on fire and that other tractors were around it. When crews arrived, they found that the fire had spread to other vehicles. An aerial view of the scene showed crews putting out flames that engulfed multiple school buses. Employees where the vehicles were stationed told WFAA that the company converts diesel vehicles to natural gas. The fire department confirmed the vehicles involved in the fire were compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles and that an explosion was heard from one of the CNG tanks. WFAA-TV ABC 8 DALLAS Woman found dead in apartment fire in northwest Houston Firefighters were on the scene of a deadly apartment fire in northwest Houston early Friday, according to the Houston Fire Department. This happened just before 4 a.m. at an apartment on Tidwell Road near between Bingle Road and Antoine Drive. HFD said fire crews responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the fire quickly. However, a woman in her 60s was found dead inside the apartment. Neighbors said she is well known. They believe she fell asleep with a lit cigarette. "We were just outside at 7:30 or 8 o'clock talking and laughing. This happens. Shock…," Quianna Jackson, a neighbor, said. She said the victim was a great neighbor and that she worked cleaning apartments in this area. Neighbors also said she had two dogs. They are now outside safe with firefighters. No firefighters were injured. KHOU-TV CBS 11 HOUSTON Hart Volunteer Fire Department receives grant for new brush truck The Hart Volunteer Fire Department will soon get a new large brush truck. The department received a $220,000 grant from the Texas A&M Forest Service Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program. The grant will be used to purchase a 2022 model 1,500-gallon tank truck. Fighting brush fires, as the name of the truck implies, is its main purpose, though it will also be of benefit to surrounding counties who need assistance from the volunteer department. "This grant would not have happened without the support of everyone around us," said George Chapa, assistant chief for the Hart Volunteer Fire Department. PLAINVIEW HERALD San Antonio firefighters respond to 2-alarm fire at electrical company San Antonio firefighters responded to a 2-alarm fire at an industrial building on the city's far Northeast Side early Friday morning. The fire was called in just before 5:30 a.m. at Powerhouse Electric in the 13100 block of Lookout Way, not far from Judson Road and Lookout Road and Interstate 35. Fire officials say when they arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from a warehouse portion of the building. Due to the quickly deteriorating conditions, they had to battle the fire defensively, a battalion chief said. Firefighters were seen cutting a hole into a garage on the side of the building in attempt to get water inside. No one was inside the building, and no injuries were reported. "It is a large structure, so it (the fire) is stubborn. We're trying to get in the there, but for now, we're gonna get the fire knocked down from the outside," a battalion chief said. WFAA-TV ABC 8 DALLAS 'Public safety will be our #1 priority': Firefighters get new training academy in Georgia VIDEO: Did you know Macon-Bibb County has a Class 1-rated fire department? The department says that means you get a better rate on your home insurance. To keep that high standard, first responders need to train constantly, and now they have a state-of-the-art facility where they can work harder to keep you safe. Lieutenant Garin Flanders is pretty proud of the new Macon-Bibb Fire Training Academy. He headed up a committee to get all the seven levels in place. "There were times we were up till 1:00 in the morning," he said. The ten rooms came with a price tag of $3.2 million -- the lion's share of that came from SPLOST money, and the rest from the general fund. It all paid for three burn rooms, "Which are rated up to 1,500 degrees for eight hours," Lt. Flanders explained. WMAZ-TV CBS/CW+ MACON Arkansas bill that would allow city fire department bomb squads to conceal carry, make arrests during threats passes committee VIDEO: A bill that would allow city fire department bomb squads to conceal carry and make arrests during explosive threats advanced through a House committee Tuesday. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Stephen Meeks, was presented Tuesday morning. Meeks was accompanied by Todd Cardin, the Conway Fire Department's Bomb Squad Commander. Cardin said a bomb technician recently accompanied an ATF agent on a Perry County call where homemade explosives were found in someone's house. "The owner of the property came up, he was armed, and my bomb tech was not and an ATF agent was," Cardin said. "If something would've happened to the ATF agent, my guy would've been unprotected. That's why we're here today." KARK-TV NBC 4 LITTLEROCK 911 calls released on actor Jeremy Renner snowplow accident in Nevada VIDEO: Emergency calls from Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue tell the story of how a dispatcher and people on scene of a snowplow accident worked to help save 51-year-old Marvel star Jeremy Renner on New Year's Day near his Reno home. Renner was clearing snow when he ended up being run over by his snowcat. A caller said Renner was bleeding and the dispatcher explained to the caller how to stop the bleeding by putting pressure on the wound with a towel. This is one exchange between the dispatcher and person who lives where the accident happened. Caller: "He got crushed up on his right side. His right chest and upper torso. His ribs, it looks like they may be crushed. He's got a head wound as well." Dispatcher: "Keep the pressure. If it keeps bleeding you're probably not pressing hard enough. Remember to keep a firm steady pressure on the wound." KVVU-TV FOX 5 HENDERSON PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
