Bryan fire chief looks back on 37 years of service Bryan Fire Chief Randy McGregor is finishing up his last week with the department after serving the community for 37 years. "When some opening came up I went and interviewed like most jobs and was offered the job and came to work here at age 19 and I've been here ever since," said McGregor. McGregor started off as a firefighter and moved up in rank as a lieutenant, battalion chief, and assistant chief. He was also one of Bryan's first paramedics. "I've enjoyed every position. It's just been a blessing," said McGregor. McGregor says many accomplishments have been made through the years at the department. The EMS fire-based services accreditation status, a class one ISO rating, resulting in lower insurance rates for homes and businesses and overall growth and safety for the department. KBTX-TV CBS 3 BRYAN Harris County outlines actions taken to enhance environmental protections since 2019 ITC chemical fire On Thursday, Harris County officials outlined all the actions it has taken over the past two years to enhance environmental monitoring and enforcement. Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo said since the ITC chemical fire that happened in Deer Park in March 2019, county officials have taken numerous steps to protect the county's environment against threats to public health and safety. These actions, according to county officials, follow decades of systemic underfunding and neglect of key county departments and services aimed at protecting residents against environmental hazards, including man-made and natural disasters. KSAT-TV ABC 12 SAN ANTONIO Holly Lake Volunteer Fire Department feels pinch of COVID-19 as fundraising events are canceled A tumultuous year of pandemic hurt many East Texas businesses, and one area we don't often think of, volunteer fire departments. They survive through grants and public donations, and that has been severely hampered by Covid-19 restrictions. For fire crews at Holly Lake VFD in Wood county, it's been a year of serving the public while tightening their belts. "Our coverage area is 15 square miles of Wood county. We are fortunate here in this department in that we have members who know how to make things work with a minimum amount of funding," says chief Bill Bollinger. Normal fundraisers they would have held were cancelled because of Covid, leaving funds short for essentials like training. "We are limited on our funding, and hoping things are going to turn around this year," Bollingr says. KLTV ABC 7 TYLER PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |
